Identity crisis!!

Well firstly i just want to scroll back my days in pune when i first arrived here in 1998(ofcourse my friends really pity on my knowledge of pune,i know)but whatever i have explored in these 1o years would like to just have a flash back of sorts.Well spent my junior college in garware college a typical brahmin oriented college speaking sweet and pure marathi a drastic change from the marathi being spoken in chandrapur where previously i was residing. Then did my graduation from modern college which was also a typical brahmin oriented college where professors mostly conversed in marathi and the did my PG from fergusson college pune the most happening and hip college. My memories dates back to tapadiya's mouthwatering samosas(we associate our best cherished memories with eateries and canteen why so??) in karve road ,the hoopla and enthuasism during ganesh festivals of shaniwarwada and tulsibagh ofcourse who can forget dagduseth ganpati, the most holy placed as far as pune is concerned, the buzzing and ever busy JM road where I spent my graduation days (ofcrs while bunking clg),here also Mamata's ever tasty samosas and kachoris, the pathaleshwar temple where we used to hangout during boring maths and statistics classes, and innumerable movies we have seen in mangala and rahul(which was not as cool as it is now). Then dating back to my PG days being spent in fergusson college road, the most coolest hangouts like savera, roopali, college's very own kimaya and oorja and ofcourse Priyadarshini's mouth watering kande pohe and phakad chaha as it is fondly called(deadly combination).Well while referring to all this memories i want to reiterate the fact that being in maharashtra almost for now 24 yrs and 9 months(my birth took place in chennai so skipping that time) i am as much maharashtrian as a typical maharashtrain will be,i can very nicely converse in marathi understand the politics and culture of pune and love the city as much as so called "marathi manus" (MNS) to be precise does, only diffference is my origins are not from here but in now way im lesser maharashtrian, i love my culture and ethnicity but at the same time i have whole heartedly accepted the culture existing here and iam proud to be called a puneri as it has given me my bread and butter,an identity and shelter so how can i ever forget the love and affection i got from this place. All this references are to prove the point that there is a certain integrity in this nation a deep rooted one which noone can break,we all coexist of different languages, culture contributing to the economy of the city and state and its realy difficult to break our coexistence so easily which the antisocial elements(MNS) ofcourse should understand.

Classics and reasons why they are called classics!!

Well starting from 1950's to 2008 hindi film industry has evolved tremendously technically and in terms of its growth and expansion worldwide. And in this evolution of the hindi film industry their have been many classic films which had tremendous mass appeal and popularity and are still remembered today. But in those every classic film there was a scence which was the highlight or to say the turning point of the film which the audiences still remember and appreciate. This is a small analysis of those memorable scences and the reason why they are so memorable.
1) Starting from the biggest blockbuster of the millenium,DDLJ ofcourse the last scence where kajol runs to catch hold of shahrukh and atlast love wins.Classic scene in every sense because it proves that love triumphs over all odds and hurdles something audiences especially young audiences loves to see again and again now also.

2)Do bigha zameen a film which is and always will be cult film,a sheer masterpiece by bimal roy,the scene in which the rickshaw puller balraj sahni chases another rickshaw with lot of pain and agony and atlast succumbs.A scene which brilliantly potrayed the pain of a poor man,the difficult circumstance the protagnist has to go through.

3) Ofcourse the classic film by hrishikesh mukerjee Anand,a film which is still remembered today for its simplicity yet having a strong impact on audiences. Here also the last scene where Anand
the main character is dead and his dear friend bhaskar is not able to accept the fact that his dear friend is dead, even before that scene the other scence where when anand is dieing he goes to search a doctor who may cure anand in the last moment but he clearly knows the fact that there is no cure for the disease. Both scenes brilliantly captured by the director.

4) A film which is one of my personal favourites is satya a dark yet thought provoking film, the scene where urmila gets to know the real identity of satya the main lead, the shock and the eventual shattering of her dreams and belief was captured brilliantly.

5)A film which may not be considered a classic but was defently a pathbreaking one was DCH,and the scene where Akash who never believes in true love, atlast falls in love and breaksdown helplessly is a scene beautifully enacted by Aamir khan.

6)Another film which I personaly liked was swades, and the scence where the train halts and mohan bhargav the lead character buys water from a poor kid and sees helplessly the poor kid selling water for meagre 25 paise.A scene which brings tears to our eyes.

These are just some of the classic films and the scenes in them which can be termed as the USPs of the film.

Dialogues "typical bollywood style" and their analysis!!

Well since its 21st century so their is improvement in india in every quarter from industrialization to bollywood with ultra cool locations, dolby sounds and ofcourse everything digitalized and modified so that we now match the international standards ("those are actually NRIs who watch any crappy indian movie simply because they are out of india"). But what we miss the most is east man colour era and before that where there were characters defined in total black and white, where running between, across, over trees or mountains was a must, where the heroines would cry and cry and cry which can actually solve lot of water problems and hamming was a norm. But think of it morally that era we really miss dnt we.technically not better and were as simplistic and linear in their narrative.Anyways we rewind back to some of the dialogues we miss the most nowdays.ofcourse the famous or to say infamous "mein tumhare bache ki maa banane wali hun",it could have been simplified to "i am pregnant dude" if the hero has studied in some convent.Next "kutte mein tera khoon pi jaunga" is it technically possible to drink someone's blood.ofcours if you add some flavour and sugar.disgusting!! "beta meine tumhare liye gajar ka halwa banaya hai".i guess the hero might be ruturning to meet his mom during winters only because that time only gajar is available cheap."please muje bhagwaan ke liye chod do"(ofcourse while the villain is cruely trying to rape the heroine)he mgt be thinking ye bhagwan kaun hai jiske liye mein itni achi cheez chod dun".
"jao beta mera ashirwad tumhare saat hai",(ofcourse when his obidient son is going to fight the cruelous villain),instead of that he can use that same valuable ashirwad for his higher education like MS etc ofcourse if he had done graduation, instead of for beating up the goons."mein ek ek ko chun chun ke marunga".dude you can use AK-47 no need of any chun chun activity,in span of seconds you can finish as manyas you want.Well would like to add more on list but cant remeber right now.Inputs are most welcome.Ofcourse this analysis can be a poor one in standard of humour but its my version so bear it!!

Classic in true sense!!

Well,i guess why mani ratnam is favourite to many. One film that I find one of his classic works is "mouna ragam".A film with simplicity, the characters as natural and realistic as they can be.Its very easy to create classics on serious and thought provoking subjects but to create a classic with romance, love and sacrifice as theme is truly difficult. But mani ratnam pulls it off so naturally and beautifully that you are bound to like it.For those who havent seen it is original "hum dil de chuke sanam" with slight changes to be precise. But once if you this film the later is no where to match. The first half is as entertaining and bubbly and the second half is treated with equal maturity. And revathy at her best bringing that innocence, bubbliness in first half and maturity in the second half. And the sensitivity with which the second half is handled is commendable. What made me write about this film is the sheer beauty of the film and the fact i can watch it innumerable times.

Gold rush!!

Well the new poster boy or to say golden boy who has overshadowed the very likes of our favourite cricketers is none other than abhinav bhindra. An individual gold medal after so many decades and making us realise that we do have that potential and zeal to make a mark in the world sports arena. But here comes the unfortunate part where the glory and fame turns into a bit of exaggeration. The ever energetic and hyper indian media starts its usual thing of over dramatising the whole event and hampering the real essence of his winning glory.Firstly his privacy goes for a toss chasing him from beijing to delhi and then to his home.Running after his family members including his sister, intruding their privacies discussing from his childhood to his future prospects of getting married.Agreed he has brought so much fame and glory to the nation but at the end of the day he is a young chap, need his share of privacy. This is where we indians need to show a little calmness and patience, true that we are hyperactive, emotional to core but overdoing everthing will only degrade the glory earned. Now the poor rajyavardhan rathod is nomore in the focus and noone is going to ask him unless he earns another medal in next olympic. This is the unfortunate part of earning glory and fame in india, the rate with which you are appreciated loved and adored,in the same rate you are thrown out of throne once you lose the glory. What weneed is a little calmness and soberness in our appreciation to someone and even in his downfalls needs to show concern and assurance that we do believe in you. That is what a young and talented sportsmen need to succeed that little assurance and faith. And then we can see many poster boys evolving!!

How much you love your country???

Well the whole country is celebrating its 61st independence day.If you ask any school going kid or college going guy the relevance of this day,it wont be more than a holiday for them when they can watch nice patriotic movies and some channels even dont bother and put some masala movie in this day also.Well you really cant blame them also for their ignorance that how lucky they are to be living in a free nation, how to preserve its integrity and soverignty. But it should not to be mistaken that today's young generation doesnt care about its nation. It does care but yes its not that expressive in that.If you ask I am extremely proud to be born as an indian and will be happy to be reborn as an indian only.I love its multiethinicity, its cultural diversity, its core existence. No country in the world can boast of the cultural and language diversity that we have.Yes if you ask what you do for your country in everyday life.yes nothing special, but that doesnt mean i dont love my nation.I dont have to pass some test of passion for my nation. If we were under slavery at this time we also would have fought for our freedom, noone likes to live under slavery. But im not in anyway disrespecting the sacrifices done by our freedom fighters,I just want to reiterate the fact that we youngsters are also passionate about our nation and if situation arises we will also contribute for its prosperity. So my love for my nation is something which cant be expressed in words same as a mother cant explain how much she loves her child!!!

deal or nodeal.

Well recently the nuclear deal being one of the important issues faced by government overiding the important issues like inflation and crimes. But what is ammusing is to see the attitude of left parties and others opposing some on the reason that it would be anti-islamic.This is the most rediculous reasons, how in the world it is connected to muslims anyway.it is a deal related to india's entry into the elite club of nuclear powers and it would be a great oppurtunity for a growing country like india to utilise this power for energy purposes, for development purposes.Since this deal has been carefully crafted with the consultations with all the seniour scientists and analysts its in the interest of the nation to go ahead with the deal. And those opposing the deal even dont have concrete reasons to prove their point. Is india such a small democracy or its authority is so poor that it cant take decisions on its own and would be pressurized by other nations. This is even more rediculous. What is the need of the hour is to stand above all party lines and should support the government for the better future of india!!

Back to roots!!

Recently went to chennai,a place which some years back I hated to go.But as saying goes life takes a full circle,it seems same for me.Dates back to my childhood when in every summer holidays i would along with my mom go to my grandmom's house. The excitement of going in train, sitting next to window(that was very important),wearing the prettiest frocks for travelling and getting lot of scolds from mom for that and ofcourse the delicious mangoes all part of memories of going to chennai.Playing with my cousins the stupidest games in the world, getting scared when a street vendor screaming for old bottles and the sweet smell of jasmine. The love and care of my grandmom who is no more with the kindness she would serve all of us food, make delicious sweets and savouries and my grandfather scolding for getting ourselves dirty in mud and the era of songs of illayraja in the background allpart of my memories of chennai. Circa 2008 things are very different but what hasnt changed is the thin but prominent desire to come back to roots,to come back to this place which in no sense heaven with lot of things, issues fitting to my desires but still a place i would love to go now with no reasons in mind but just an indepth desire.

Onbench or out of bunch!!

Well as part of a large software fraternity(useless) to be precise,i now find the word onbench very troublesome and worrying.Well when you get your first job,the pleasure of earning by yourself and ofcourse a life full of aspirations does makes you feel good. But that very happiness goes into drain when your skills are not utilized and kept "onbench".Agreed there can be recession, downfalls in every company but keeping someone idle for almost 1 year and paying them for nothing is something like sweet poison. It is sweet in the beginning but later it is as bitter as it could be!!People may say what you have done to increase your skills. We try our best to be in touch with what we are good at but unless you have hands on experience of something then whats the point in mugging from books.Nothing is better than practical experience. You cant learn cycling reading from a book unless you learn by riding it,falling, hurting and then you learn!!Same for work.Only practical training will help you learn.Ofcourse onbench is an illusive word whose meaning nor does the heads of S/W co. know nor the employees themselves. And thats what makes you out of bunch where you are out of the group luckily who are having some work to do.

NOSTALGIA at its best!!!

Well while switching channels(btw my favourite hobby) i "accidently" bumped in to doordarshan unfortunately and saw the "mile sur mera tumhara" and believe it or not cried because it took me back to the times when i was this young girl in 3rd or 4th standard, with so much of innocence and happiness with which i used to watch this ad and sing along, some of the languages which i even dont know i used to sing with ease because it was kind of bihearted and so much in to our memories that it is difficult to forget.Ask anyone of that era of 80's and they will turn emotional with the other ads of khaitan fans, the dhara ad where the kid jumps on food stuffs, the gold spot ad and many more.I bet if doordarshan rereuns those ads and old serials like circus, flopshow, humlog and many more of that era people will watch it with same enthuaism and it will generate more TRPs than IPL i bet. When the hell doordarshan will realise that it is sitting on the bed of gold with such nostalgic archives with it.I hope the heads of prasar bharati realise this instead of churning stupid new programs it better show rereuns of old ads and serials it has in its archives and see how it will change the very fortunes of its dismal broadcasting!!!

Reality bites!!!

Well since being at home,u just cant avoid the stupid idiot box,and whichever channel u switch on and there is a reality show being aired.Well the very concept of reality has taken a very different face altogether. The first original reality show was probably indian idol, concept ofcourse adapted from american idol but was nicely adapted and moulded in indian context. It was such a popular show covering evry aspect of journey of 1000s of aspiring singers, their journey from rugs to riches, their ups and downs, their sucesses and failures and ofcourse the becoming of ultimate indian idol. All was covered with atmost originality and was hugely appreciated as the TRPs were the proofs. But this success of one reality show gave rise to a whole bunch of reality shows especialy musicals which now obviously has tarnished the very image of "reality" show. Now you can see lot of drama, fights, bitching, favourism, abuses, hatred, groupism and what not.I wonder if this is what we want to see,and i do blame viewers including me who love to watch this bitching and dirty stuff.Ofcourse tv viewing is not a source of social message and evry programe cant be a ramayan or mahabharat conveying good values but some of the shows go overboard and it clearly looks fake most of the time.Broadcasting has evolved in these years very much with coming of plenty of channels, but at the same time this has given rise to a dirty, below the belt competition where the channels are stooping new lows to achieve TRPs and become popular,Same goes for the 24 hrs new channels.they are even worse showing all the stuff other than new, what the hell rakhi sawant supposed to be doing in a news channel.Disgusting!!Well in the era where television is undergoing a major transformation, the owners of the channels get some senses and realise some i mean some responsibility to show sensible contents on television with combination of entertainment, sensibility and resposibility. And same goes for viewers also specially miss.ekta kapoor's die hard fans.please have some sensibility in what you are viewing.

Speeeed Kills!!!

Well this is a post cum social message coz the very reason im writing is because of my first hand experience of how speed in a moment can destruct everything and how hard it is to recover from the damage whether it is a human body or a machine. The fun while driving in the road with high speed, and dash of style and attitude looks cool but when you realise, evrything being out of control thats when that very speed, attitude and style vanishes and what remains is pain, and lot of suffering. Now fortunately if you have done some less sins in this lifetime you are saved and are alive and unfortunately if yamraj is waiting for you might very well end up dying.so dudes and gals please drive slowly,ya me the speedster is giving such advices coz its just not your life, but for many other people around you.so drive slowly, and most important wear helmet!!!

"Shahrukh" the phenomenon

The fact is that there are people who just love him and there are some who love to hate him.But the fact is he is defenitely a phenomenon whether its the film industry or the advertsing market. He is been a consistent player of sorts who has able to manage his career with personal life with pretty much of balance.People say he does monotonous kind of work playing the same rahuls and rajs but now that he is back with a bang in chakde obviously those critic's mouth are shut. But he is one who didnt had any godfather in industry, has achieved all the success by himself and is one of the prominent international figures giving challenge to the likes of tom cruise may be even more popular. And the great thing about his career is that it had not ever any impact on his personal affairs, where there are divorces and separations a sort of norm in the film industry he is one who was not much affected by controversies.People say has in recent times he has become big mouthed by challenging the likes of amitabh bachan but he has never personally targetted him and infact always respected him as a legendry figure its the media which has wrongly potrayed him in bad light. One thing as his huge fan i would like him is to quit smoking because he is such a icon especialy among youngsters he just can be more responsible.Apart from that shahrukh will truly remain the badshah of bollywood for many more years to come!!!!

Great indian directors

I am not really a big film buff, but there are some filmakers i realy admire especially someone like hrikesh mukerjee, mani ratnam, and in recent times nagesh kukunoor. The works of a great director is visible at the very first onset when the visuals, the way a particular scence is being coordinated and narration of story is done, for instance if you take mani ratnam especially if you see his earlier works in tamil the prime importance is given to the script rather than other aspects, even a certain silence in a particular scence has the power to express a lot!!Ofcourse every director has his or her own way or genre of work.If you take for instance hrikesh mukerjee his way of filmmaking primarily focussed on the simple instances in life which we all miss out and human emotions and mostly tapped the natural character of human being. If you take someone like karan johar which some may not include in great directors but his films of genre entertainers do have some niche audiences who are very much happy with the film he makes and may be called as "paisa vasool" films.Even the very likes of david dhawan and priyadarshan who basically create comedies which may be seem sometimes senseless ones but are able to make people laugh and reliev them of stress.Or the more creative director like sanjay leela bansali who creativity and sets are more of focus than the film itself.but his khamoshi was hugely appreciated even tough not accepted by audiences. All and all every film maker is born with certain special talent which he tries to convey thru his work and some are expertise in that and win accodales but what makes the director special is when his/her film becomes a superduper hit, then he is automatically termed a great director from both critics and audiences side!!
